Peran Politik Anggota Legislatif Perempuan dalam Merespon Kepentingan Perempuan (Studi Kasus DPRD Kota Pematang Siantar 2016)

Abstract

Pematangsiantar City (often shortened to Siantar only) is one of the cities in North Sumatra Province, and the second largest city in the province after Medan. Because of the strategic location of Pematangsiantar, it is crossed by the Highway of Sumatra. The city has an area of 79.97 km2 and a population of 240,787 inhabitants (2000). The protection of the victims and the punishment of the perpetrators is very low, so a binding regional regulation is required. The role of women legislative members is needed in the discussion of this regional regulation because of the large number of women and children who are victims of trafficking in persons. This study uses descriptive method by describing and describing the state of the subject or object of research based on existing facts with data collection techniques of direct interviews. All of the collected data are pooled and analyzed using gender theory, political representative theory, and public policy theory. The results of this study found that the role of women legislators is still minimal in responding to the needs and interests in constituent areas. In practice, they have not understood their position as women's representatives in DPRD. Ignorance of KAUKUS and the political role of legislative members is urgently needed to make women their main focus of this subject highlighted in this study.
