dc.description.abstract | At first the stone jumping culture (hombo batu) is a traditional culture that
is owned by the whole village joined in Maenamolo Ori. Hombo batu culture has
a history laden with war, patriotism and heroic character. Bawomataluo village
today is the only village which still keeps the results of South Nias culture
complete with traditional cultural attributes typical of South Nias including
hombo batu. Bawomataluo village also store the results of the South Nias culture
other than hombo batu, such as dance and ritual culture, stone megaliths and
houses that are centuries old. Hombo batu was once a place of physical exercise
for youths in Ori Maenamolo, as well as a measure of the maturity of a young
man to become a warrior. According to the narrative of the informants, they say
that as time goes by and the times, the culture hombo batu has now become a
tourist culture, this change is also affecting changes hombo batu in terms of form,
meaning and function of the real. Hombo batu into one of the attractions that are
not less interesting to other tourist attractions in South Nias, various actions and
styles of the jumper when you're on the air. The tourists are not satisfied taste if
you do not see the attraction of this. It also makes the village youth in tourist
destinations and activities have made this tradition into a commercial activity. To
watch this attraction, the tourists have to pay some money to the stone jumper.
Changes in traditional culture into tourist culture has brought socio-economic
and cultural changes for people Bawomataluo village. Hombo batu cultural
function changes in the present has provided opportunities and employment
opportunities are more open to the public Bawomataluo, who directs this village
and surrounding communities to be more self-sufficient and prosperous.
The method used is the case study method with a qualitative approach.
Data was collected by observation, interview, and literature study. In this study,
the unit of analysis is the village community Bawomataluo Fanayama District of
Nias, tourists hombo batu and society immigrants who came from the island of
Nias. Interpretation of the data is done by using the data obtained from
observations and interviews, which are interpreted based on a literature review
