The Role Of English Subtitle In Improving The Vocabulary Of The Student Of State Madrasah Aliyah In Sorkam

Abstract

The thesis entitled "THE ROLE OF ENGLISH SUBTITLE IN IMPROVING THE VOCABULARY OF THE STUDENTS OF STATE MADRASAH ALIYAH IN SORKAM" is a linguistic study. This study appears because subtitle play a role in increasing students' vocabulary. This thesis was done to answer the curiosity of the writer about encourage and improve of vocabulary from subtitle found in the transcript of Pikachu movie. The objective of this study is to describe the types of content words found in the transcript of Pikachumovie and to describe how subtitle role the encourage of vocabulary. This movie is selected because it uses the English language and many students interest about this movie and make them curious and want learn by this movie. In order to identify and classify the encourage and improve in the subtitles of Pikachu movietheory about pre-test and post testare used. The method of the analysis is descriptive qualitative method. As a result of this study, it was stated that in the pretest test the average value obtained was only 59.8 with students who passed the KKM (minimum completeness criteria) 9 people from 25 respondents, meaning that they only obtained 36%. Then at the time of posttest the average value obtained was 79.6 with the percentage of success criteria obtained was 76%. It is proven that the post-test has a significant improvement and English subtitles increase students' motivation and improve students' vocabulary skills by watching movies with subtitles
