    Abstract
    Human need for new information made people highly dependent on the development of communication technology available. As part of the communications media, social media has influenced the development of communication patterns that exist in society. The ease of spreading information and getting information, making social media not just as a mere communication media, but is also used as a medium for political purposes. The political process is done in social media is utilized as a means to socialize, express, influence, and construct public opinion. The development of social media is also due to the number of users of social media increases significan annually. One of the political activity that is currently emerging in social media is the use of social media such as a venue for political campaigns. Political campaign is an opportunity for a candidate who wants to occupy positions to attract the sympathy of the public. The victory achieved by couples Eldin - Akhyar not be separated from the pair's success in utilizing social media as a media campaign. In contrast to conventional campaign pattern, in a social media campaign will require creativity to attract the sympathy of social media users. These factors became the reason researchers to find out how couples Eldin - Akhyar in utilizing social media in Pilkada Kota Medan 2015 This research was conducted by using the theory of social media and social capital, where social media is considered as part of the social capital that is owned by the candidate in attracting the sympathy of the public. Social media is the new media that replaces conventional media and serves as environment interaction between users that generate a relationship. In this study it was found that social media is used as a communication medium used Eldin couples - Akhyar to illustrate that this pair is desirable community leaders. In addition dipegunakan social media as much as possible to overcome the problems in the election of Medan in 2015, such as black campaign and to attract the support of their community. The depiction of the image of the ideal figure of the leader in social media has become one of the social capital that has couples Eldin - Akhyar in the face of Pilkada Kota Medan 2015.
