This research is motivated by the concern of parents that their children will
become victims of an unhealthy school environment and outside of school.
Although not all children at school become perpetrators of violence. Through
homeschooling, parents can actually better direct the development and growth of
children according to their talents and interests. Because the results of this
education are more personal and flexible. Parents feel that the child's education
starts from the family. The family is a place for the development and growth of
children. Some of the reasons behind parents choosing homeschooling include so
that children have satisfactory learning achievements, poor school learning
environment and religious reasons. Parents' concerns can be enlightened by the
presence of homeschooling which seeks to meet the specific educational needs of
the family because homeschooling does have a customized nature so that it can be
adapted to the conditions of each family. This study aims to describe the
modalities of students who take homeschooling education. This study uses the
theory of DePorter and Hernacki and uses a descriptive research method with a
qualitative approach. The method of taking the research subject is by using
purposive sampling. While the data collection techniques are by means of
observation, interviews, and documentation. The location of this research was
conducted in Medan City, North Sumatra Province. The results obtained from this
study indicate that teachers in homeschooling learning activities explain more
about learning materials. Means, the teacher familiarizes students to learn with
an auditory learning style. Of the 15 students who took homeschooling the most
dominant applied the auditory learning style as many as 7 people, followed by the
visual learning style 5 people and only 3 people had the characteristics of the
kinesthetic learning style.
