Toleransi Sosial dalam Lingkungan Sekolah Multikultural (Studi Pada Siswa Siswi SMA YP. Sultan Iskandar Muda Medan)

Abstract

Tolerance is the foundation for us to be able to create a life of peace and harmony. It has already become the desire of all human beings to live in peace and prosperity without conflict. This conflict caused a lot of losses even caused some peoples killed simply because of this conflict. For that let us together to understand the importance of tolerance and multiculturalism, because Indonesia's multicultural society and has its own uniqueness. It is undeniable that we also have to accept Indonesia is a multicultural society. Not only in broad environments where tolerance is required but in an educational institution like school environment is needed tolerance too. The purpose of this study was to determine the social tolerance in a multicultural school environment. Researcher use descriptive research method with qualitative approach to produce the desired data. In this study the author uses ten respondents representing SMA YP. Sultan Iskandar Muda Medan. The results showed tolerance among high school students YP. Sultan Iskandar Muda was already quite good but still found some constraints. Need better cooperation between the authorities of the school together with the teachers in order to reinforce a sense of community so that tolerance is more fully understood and created a safe, comfortable and peaceful school. Tolerance itself is very relevant to the acceptance and respect on students themselves. Also in demand control by the school as well. Therefore, students should be aware of the importance of tolerance and are willing to keep peace together within the existing differences.
