dc.description.abstract | Feed concentrate and feed have different textures and nutrition contents which can potentially affect on ectoparasites infection. Accumulation of leftover feed and poor sanitation in cages are factors that can potentially infected by ectoparasite on goats. Research the prevalence of ectoparasite in saanen goats (Capra aegagrus hircus) fed by papaya leaf (Carica papaya linn) and the concentrate in Sunggal district, Deli Serdang regency, North Sumatera. Research was carried out at Tharraya Farm, from November to January 2022. The purpose of the research was to compare type of ectoparasites, prevalence and intensity of the infection. The research used 15 goats. Ectoparasite samples were obtained by skin scrapings on folds neck and back of the goats using a scalpel. The observation was conducted at the Parasitology Laboratory Veterinary Research Center Medan. The results showed that two types of ectoparasites were found on fed concentrate feed namely Demodex sp. and Linognathus vituli, whereas goats feeded by papaya leaf have no ectoparasite. The prevalence of Demodex sp found was 33% (very often) with intensity infection 4 (moderate infection), whereas Linognathus vituli has a prevalence of 53.3% (frequently) with intensity infection 1.6 (mild infection). Feed containing papaya leaf is potential to prevent goat from ectoparasites. | en_US |
