    Abstract
Background: Physical fitness is. the capacity to perform physical activity or exercise which integrates cardiorespiratory and musculoske/eta/ functions. There is an increasing tendency in the use of yoga as a physical exercise to increase physical fitness in adolescents. It is not clear, however, whether yoga can improve adolescents' physical fitness. Objective: The objective of the research was to assess the association between practicing yoga and physical fitness (cardiorespiratory and musculoske/etal) in female adolescents who practiced and did not practice yoga. Method: Cross sectional research was conducted in Kamalini Yoga Center, Medan, North Sumatera, from February until April, 2016. The subjects were 30 female adolescents who practiced yoga in at least two months and 30 female adolescents who did not practice yoga that met the based match characteristics. Cardiorespiratory function was assessed by using V02111?X' with step test and musculoskeletal function was assessed by using spinal flexibility with sit and reach test in both groups. The data were analyzed by using independent t-test with Confldence Interval of 95% (p<0. 05). Results: There was significant difference in the mean value of V02max and spinal flexibility score in female adolescents who practiced and did not practice yoga. · The mean value of V02max in both yoga group and non-yoga group was 47.3 (2.11) vs. 41.1 (2.89) or p=0.001 respectively. The mean value of spinal flexibility score in both groups was 32.9 (5. 74) vs. 21.5 or p=0. 001 respectively. Conclusion: There was significant association between practicing yoga and physical fitness in female adolescents
