dc.description.abstractThis study aims to describe the pragmatic meaning along with the forms and types of directive and expressive speech acts on the main character in the film 黄飞鸿之英雄有梦 (Huáng fēihóng zhī yīng xióng yǒu mèng) Rise of The Legend. The theory used in this study is the speech act theory pioneered by J.L Austin. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative method. The research data are utterances that contain directive and expressive speech acts and their types. sourced from the film 黄飞鸿之英雄有梦 (Huáng fēihóng zhī yīng xióng yǒu mèng) Rise of The Legend which was released in 2014. Research data was collected using the listening method, and note-taking techniques. The results of the study show that directive and expressive speech acts have a pragmatic meaning, namely directives which are speech acts in which the speaker tries to ask the speech partner to do an action or not to do an action. The types are commanding, asking, forbidding, advising, opposing, and inviting. Expressive speech acts are speech acts that show the speaker's psychological attitude towards a situation with its types, namely sadness, joy, anger, apologizing, thanking, praising, hating, and congratulating.en_US
