dc.description.abstract | Vitiligo is a disease of the loss of melanin pigment in the skin and the treatment of
vitiligo is generally with the use of commercial ointments. Bay leaf extract
contains antioxidants that can increase melanin production in vitiligo. Bay leaf
(Syzygium polyanthum (Wight) Walp.) which is known to contain antioxidants is
one of the natural ingredients that needs to be tried to treat the loss of melanin
pigment in vitiligo. This study aims to analyze the effect of bay leaf extract on the
extent of vitiligo, percent repigmentation and the amount of melanin pigment in
the skin of mice (Mus musculus L.) black vitiligo model. Bay leaves were extracted
with ethanol and vitiligo black mice were obtained by applying monobenzone to
the backs of mice that had been shaved with a diameter of 2 cm for 50 days. This
study used 25 black mice which were divided into 5 treatments, namely the
treatment of bay leaf extract with a concentration of 25%, 50%, 75%, without bay
leaf extract and the treatment of commercial ®sumifun ointment. All treatment
groups were carried out for 28 days. The results showed that the administration of
bay leaf extract with a concentration of 75% had the best effect in reducing the
area of vitiligo by 1.912 cm2 because it was covered by the returned melanin
pigment, increasing the percentage of repigmentation which continued to increase
by 70.4% and increasing the amount of melanin pigment by 439. 08 per field of
view with a microscope lens magnification of 40x100 on skin histology of black
mice with vitiligo model. | en_US |
