The ability of chitinolytic bacteria isolated from Nepenthes tobaica and Nepenthes
gracilis to inhibit the growth of plant pathogen fungi has been studied through
antagonistic and crude extract tests. Five chitinolytic bacterial isolates isolated
from Nepenthes tobaica and Nepenthes gracilis have been tested and showed the
ability to inhibit the growth of Fusarium sp. and Rhizoctonia solani. RH1 isolate
has the highest ability to inhibit the growth of Fusarium sp. and Rhizoctonia
solani with diameter of inhibition zone of 2.00 cm and 2.40 cm, respectively.
AM1 isolate showed relatively the same diameter of inhibition of 2.05 cm and
2.15 cm, respectively. CBH isolate showed the lowest inhibition zone of 0.90 cm
and 1.60 cm respectively. The crude extract of the chitinase of isolates with the
highest inhibitory ability was tested back against of both fungi. The crude extract
of RH1 showed inhibition of the growth of Fusarium sp. and Rhizoctonia solani
with inhibition zone of 0.91 cm and 1.41 cm, respectively while extract of AM1
showed inhibition zone of 1.35 cm and 1.27 cm, respectively.
