dc.description.abstract | The use of local fungi to reduce BOD, COD in pulp mill effluent was studied in
Microbiology Laboratory Department of Biology and Bio-Chemistry Laboratory
Department of Chemistry Faculty of Matematic and Natural Sciences, University of
Sumatera Utara from May to October 2008. The Objective was to obtain the local
that were able to reduce BOD and COD. The fungi were isolated from pulp mill
effluent and soil contaminated by pulp effluen around Toba Pulp Lestari Company,
Sosor ladang village, Porsea, Tobasa North Sumatera. Six local fungi were isolated
and purified on Mineral Low Salt Nitrogen Pulp Effluent and Sabouraud Dextrose
Agar. The results indicate that fungi Sp S3 showed the highest ability to reduce BOD
that was 5.18 mg/l found in pulp effluent concenntration 75% with glucosa addition,
followed by Sp E2, Sp S4, Sp S2, Sp E1, Sp S1. The highest ability in reducing COD
was found in Sp S3 which was 647. 2 mg/l in pulp effluent concentration 75% with
glucosa addition, followed by Sp E2, Sp S4, Sp S2, Sp E1, Sp S1. | en_US |
