Research on Isolation and Ability Test Of Endophytic Bacteria Producing IAA
(Indole Acetic Acid) Hormone From Crops Maize Root (Zea mays L.) has been carried
out from September 2008 to September 2009 at the Laboratory of Microbiology
Faculty of Mathematic and Natural Science and Laboratory of Quantitative
Chemistry Faculty of Pharmacy North Sumatra University . This study was aimed to
obtain isolate of endhophytic bacteria producing IAA of corn plant roots and to
know their role in promoting seed germination of corn. Bacteria producing IAA was
isolated, characteristed, and tested their ability to produced IAA both in vitro or in
vivo. The results showed that there were 13 potential endhophytic bacteria isolates that
produced IAA. The highest IAA concentration was 1.1255 ppm obtained from isolate
KB3. Soaking seedling into bacterial suspensions could potentially enhanced the
growth of seedling. Parameters observed were sprout height, root length and sprout
weight.
