A study of kantung semar (Nepenthes spp.) in west area Batang Toru forest North
Tapanuli, North Sumatra has been done in August-December 2014. The objective
of this study is to observe, diversity, and distribution of Nepenthes species. Study
site was determined with purposive random sampling method. Monitoring was
done using belt transect method and survey. The survey obtained 5 species, that is
N. albomarginata, N. ampullaria, N. gracilis, N. longifolia, and N. rafflesiana.
Dominating Nepenthes species in research station is N. longifolia with importance
value index of 118,94 %. Diversity Nepenthes is low with 0,81. The study was
presented an identification key and characters of Nepenthes species. Nepenthes
spp. dominant at 800-1000 masl, rainfall 3500-4000 mm/year, pH 3-6, on the soil
humic acrisols 2/3c, and occupied an old secondary forest, swamp forest, and
river edge.
