The study was targetted in utilization of "tahu" solid waste as supplement
for direct compression tablet, which also includes characterization of physical and
chemical of properties of the tablets.
Large amount of" tahu” solid waste, so far , has not been optimally utilized,
and creating enviromental concer. By utilizing the solid waste, one can in prove
profitability of “tahu" processing industries.
‘Tahu" solid waste was processed to produce solid powder ( particle size:
100 µg and 150 µg ). Chemical analysis of the solid waste showed composition :
crude protein (0.47%), crude fat (0.67%), rough fiber (20.51%), ash (2.04%),
Ca (0.63%) and P (0.09%).
The result showed that particle size as well as quantity of the solid waste
powder affecting characteristics of the tablet. Primojel and starch were used as
commercial control supplements for the tablet
It is revealed that the solid waste can be used as supplement for direct
compression tablet; with weight concentration between 1 - 10 %. Higher
concentration of the solid waste as supplement affecting characteristics of the
tablet : ie. disintegration time, dissolution test and water absorption. Optimum
concentration of the solid waste as supplement for direct compression tablet
obtained around 5%.
It is suggested that utization of "tahu” solid waste can be used as alternative
low cost direct compression tablet supplement.
