| dc.description.abstract | Background: Condyloma Acuminata or genital warts is a Sexually Trarxmitted
Infections disease caused by the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV). Research has done
to determine the effect of HPV against tumor suppressor protein, HPV oncogenic
associated with viral proteins E6 and E7 which leads to increased cell proliferation
resulting in pre-cancerous lesions that can develop into cancer. Pl6 is a tumor
suppressor gene that produces the protein p16 which serves as a binder CDK4 / CDK6
which inhibits the cell cycle. Detection of proteins that play a role in the regulation of
the cell is expected to be used as a biomarker which enables early detection of cancer.
Koilocytes is a pathognomonic sign of HPV infection The formation of cytoplasmic
vacuoles is unclear, but mainly due to HPV DNA replication and virion contained in
nucleus.
Objectives: To access correlation between expression ofpl6 and nuclear morphology
of koilocytes on condyloma acuminata lesions-
Subject and methods: The subjects of this study included 31 samples with
condyloma acuminata lesions, history taking physical, dermatovenereological,
acetowhite examination, biopsy of the lesion, and immunohystochemical staining were
done on all the subjects. This was an analitic study with cross-sectional design.
Results: There was no significant correlation between the expression of p16 with
nuclear morphology of koilocytes on condyloma acuminata lesion.(p{,5). Twenty one
lesions of condyloma acuminata drow positive/p 16 overexprcssion, 20 lesio'ns showed
nuclear morphology of koilocytes B in normal size or small, round to oval shapes,
