The research of ” Fingerprint patterns of schizophrenia of some ethnics” has been
done in Medan Asylum Center in March 2009. The aim was to obtain fingerprint
patterns, total ridge count and percentage of fingerprint patterns of schizophrenia of
some ethnics in Medan. The number of sample used was 60 people has schizophrenia
and 60 normal people. Every sample consists of 20 people taken from Java ethnic, 20
people Batak Toba ethnic and 20 people Chinese ethnic. The method used was case
control survey, which variables fingerprint patterns (whorl, ulnar loop, radial loop
and arch) and total ridge count. The highest percentage of whorl schizophrenia found
in Java and Chinese compare to the normal, it means the percentage of ulnar loop was
higher on Batak Toba schizophrenia than in Batak Toba normal. Based on chi-square
test, showed that the difference percentage of fingerprint patterns between
schizophrenia and normal was significant. The ridge number of every ethnic of
schizophrenia was lower than normal ethnic.
