Research on Isolation and Ability Test of Endophytic Bacteria Producing IAA (Indole
Acetic Acid) Hormone from Paddy Roots (Oryza sativa L.) has been carried out in the
Laboratory of Microbiology, Faculty of Mathematic and Natural Science and
Laboratory Quantitative Chemistry, Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Sumatera
Utara. The objective of this research was to isolate endophytic bacteria producing IAA
hormone from paddy roots and their role in promoting germinated paddy. The isolates
were morphological and biochemically characterized and the ability test of producing
IAA was analyzed by colorimetric. The highest IAA concentration was obtained by
the isolate of Bj2 which 1,090 ppm. Meanwhile in vivo test was done using sprout
soaked with bacterial suspension. Soaking sprouts into bacterial suspension could
potentially enhance of growth of paddy sprouts. Isolate Md 1 has showed best result
with sprout height was 25,58 cm; root length 10,48 cm and sprout weight 0,2 g.
