    Abstract
The research of " Karyotype Differences of Two Species of Batak fish (Tor Neolissochilus sp. and Tor sp.)" has conducted from March to September 2009 at Genetics’ Laboratory of Mathematics and Natural Sciences Faculty, University of Sumatera Utara, Medan. Analysis carried out on the gills of two species of fish by using a method developed by Fisher and Rachlin (1972) with Giemsa staining. The results of this study showed karyotype differences from Neolissochilus sp. and Tor sp. Neolissochilus sp. and Tor sp. has 3 types of chromosomes with chromosome type metacentric, submetacentric and telocentric. The longest chromosome of Neolissochilus sp. is t he c hromosome numb er 1 with a leng th o f 0 .7 5 μm w ith chromosome type submetacentric while, the longest chromosome of Tor sp is chromosome number 1 with length 0.87 μm with metacentric type. The shortest chromosome of Neolissochilus sp. is the chromosome number 40 with a length of 0.04 μm with chromosome type telosentric. While the shortest chromosome of Tor sp. is chromosome number 27 with length 0.09 μm with chromosome type telocentric. The biggest chromosome arm relative Percentage (% PR) of Neolissochilus sp. is 7.2 % while, Tor sp. is 7.85 %. The smallest chromosome arm relative percentage of Neolissochilus sp. is 0.3 % while Tor sp. 0.75 %. The biggest percentage centromere index (% IS) of Neolissochilus sp. and Tor sp. has same value (100%). The smallest percentage centromere index of Neolissochilus sp. is 25 %, while Tor sp. is 28 %.
