Research has been conducted to determine fern species in Telagah forest, Gunung Leuser
National Park. Identification of fern species was based on morphological characteristics
such as habit, habitat, stature of rhizome, stature of roots, stipe, enthal (form, tip, base,
edge, texture, surface and color of enthal) and sorus (arrangement and colour). The result
showed there were 56 fern species, belonging to two classes, nineteen families and thirty four genera. Of total 56 species, forty were categorized as terrestrial fern, eleven species
were epiphytes and five species were both habits. The most dominan species were
member of Polypodiaceae and Athyriaceae with total of 11 and 9 species, respectively.
Overall, species were found within altitude from 1060-1190 metre above sea level, with
air humidity of 78-90%, and light intensity of 120-224 Cd.
