The Taxonomic Study of Rattan In Sikundur Area Leuser National Park of North
Sumatera using Survey Methods has been studied from May to Agustust 2011. There
are 27 species of rattan found in the study area belonging into five genera. Those
species identified primarily based on their knee, ocrea and rachis. Based on phenetic
analisys of morphological characters, species are classified to two groups that are
group A and B with the morphological similarity ranges from 57% to 93%. Group A
consist of 14 species (Calamus erectus, C. scipionum, C. exilis, C. tumidus, Calamus
sp2., Calamus sp1., C. simlicifolius, C. ovoideus, Calamus sp3., Daemonorops draco,
D. hystrix, Plectocomia sp., P. Griffithii, and Plectocomiopsis sp.) with morphological
similarity ranges from 65% to 93%. Group B consist of 13 species (Calamus caesius,
C. discolor, C. javensis, Calamus sp4., C. ornatus, C. penicillalus, C. tetradactylus,
C. zollingeri, Korthalsia echiometra, K. rostrata, K. rigida, K. scortechinii, K.
scaphigera) with morphological similarity ranges from 61% to 93%. Most species
found on the habitat from 35 to 78 meters above sea level, nearby mountain side and
swamp.
