dc.description.abstractThe research on biosurfactant producing bacteria isolated from Belawan North Sumatera has been done in Microbiology Laboratory, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences University of North Sumatera from January to Agustust 2009. The objective of research was to know the potency of bacteria in naphtalene degradation. The parameters observed were the growth of isolates on naphtalene containing medium, ability of isolates in degrading naphtalene, biosurfactant activity and concentration biosurfactant produced. Thirteen isolates were able to grow on Bushnell Hass Agar containing 2% naphtalene. Isolate Sp 4 and Sp 7 were the most potential in degrading naphtalene (99% degradation). Isolate Sp 4 also produced highest concentration of biosurfactant (75.180 ppm) and has highest biosurfactant activity (2.89 ml).en_US
