dc.description.abstractResearch on the Social Behavior of Parent-Child Orangutan (Pongo abelii) at the Orangutan Sumatra Viewing Center, Bukit Lawang, Gunung Leuser National Park has been carried out from September 2009 until February 2010. This study uses Focal Animal Sampling with data recording instantaneous and ad libitum sampling. Of the three objects obtained percentage research parent-child social behavior orangutans is on the highest is Minah-Catherine for 19,10 % of social play, social grooming and social of eating together, eating the same pattern in all three objects of study on behavior of hand to hand (HTH) and mouth to hand (MTH), Approach- Leave Index a negative value on the individual young Sumi (four month) and parentchild distance of orangutan which are too close to the visitor that is < 5 meters, < 2 meters even 0 meter that can endanger the guides and visitors.en_US
