A study on “ screening of soil fungi that produce antibiotic isolated from Bangka and
Sibolangit Recreation Natural Park and their ability to inhibit plant phatogenic fungi” was
conducted from May 2010 to January 2011 in Microbiology Laboratory, Biology
Department, and Research Laboratory, Faculty of Mathematic and Natural Science
University of Sumatera Utara. Thirty one fungi were isolated from soil on potato dextrose
agar (PDA) medium. They consisted of nine genera. i.e Penicillium, Aspergillus,
Fusarium, Curvularia, Rhizomucor, Paecilomyces, Moniliella, Eupenicillium, and
Trichoderma, and four unidentified isolates wich were sp. 1, sp. 2, sp. 3, and sp. 4.
Aspergillus and Penicillium were frequently found. The result showed that fourteen
species fungi were potential to inhibit the growth of G. boninense and F. oxysporum. No
isolates was potential to inhibit P. citrinum growth. Methanol extract of Penicillium sp. 1
showed relatively high ability to inhibit the growth of G. boninense compared to others,
with inhibition zone of 17.75 mm, whereas Penicillium sp. 8 inhibited the growth of the
F. oxysporum with inhibition zone of 7.75 mm.
