    Abstract
Have been done research with the title “Diversity of Plankton in Water Island District Nine Pangkalan Susu Langkat North Sumatra”. This research is done with the method of purpossive Random Sampling that is determine 3 research stations of pursuant difference in community activities that take place in the area. The samples with 9 replications at each research station. The purpose of this study was to see the diversity of plankton and the relationship between physical factors with the chemical diversity of plankton. From the results obtained by the identification of 6 classes of phytoplankton are classified in 29 families and 40 genera and 4 classes of zooplankton that are categorized in 10 families and 10 genera. Plankton abundance, relative abundance and the highest frequency contained in stasiun 2 presence of 272.10 ind / l (K), 5.60% (KR), and 66.66% (FK) in the genus Ceratium. While the value of plankton abundance, relative abundance and frequency of attendance at station 1 contained the lowest of 27.21 ind / l (K), 1.02% (KR) and 22.22% (FK) is the genus Bidulphia, Thalassiothrix and Dytilum. Diversity Index (H '), the highest plankton at station 3 of 3535 while the lowest diversity indices at station 1 is 2770. Uniformity Index (E) the highest at station 3 is 0.96 while the uniformity index is the lowest at station 1 082. Results of correlation analysis showed that temperature, pH, salinity, light intensity, light penetration, BOD5, ammonia and phosphate correlated very strongly to the Diversity Index (H') plankton.
