A study about the inhibition of Sclerotium rolfsii causal of soybean damping off with
chitinolytic bacteria had been done in Laboratory of Observation Pest and Disease
UPT-BPTPH 1 and Laboratory of Microbiology, Department of Biology, Faculty of
Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Sumatera Utara, Medan. The study
was aimed to know the ability of chitinolytic bacteria to inhibit S. rolfsii. Six isolates
of chitinolytic bacteria showed different ability in inhibiting of S. rolfsii. The most
effective isolate was shown by Bacillus sp. BK13 and Enterobacter sp. BK15 with
inhibition zone of 3.75 cm and 3.70 cm, respectively. The lowest effective was shown
by Enterobacter sp. PB17 with inhibition zone of 0.10 cm. Enterobacter cloacae
LK08 do not have ability to inhibit S. rolfsii. BK13 and BK15 isolates shown to
reduce damping off on soybean. The seeds soaked in bacterial suspension of BK13
dan BK15 was able to reduce damping off by 44.4% and 50%, respectively.
