This study was conducted to know ectoparasites infecting tiger grouper, and the
influence of salinity in ectoparasites prevalency in the tiger gouper. The study was
conducted at Parasitology Laboratorium, Fish Quarantine, First Class in Polonia-
Medan from January to June 2011. Double layer slide glass method and gill mount
methods were used to examine ectoparasite prevalency. Chi-square analysis was
utilized to compare all treatment of salinity (20, 25, 30, 35, 40 and 45 ppt). Ten fish of
±10 cm was used. Observation was done every two weeks during six weeks of study.
The result showed that salinity affected the ectoparasites prevalency. Ectoparasites
were found in two of the body, in the surface and gills. Oodonium sp., Trichodina sp.
and Diplectanum sp. showed relatively high prvelency by 14,48 %, 14,21 % and 12,69
%, respectively Benedenia sp. showed low prevalency by 12,49 %. Salinity at 35 ppt
showed relatively lower prevalency compared to other salinity.
