| dc.description.abstract | Glycerin is obtained from the hydrolysis of palm kernel oil using pressure of 50-56
bar and temperature 250 – 2600C. Glycerin is a chemical product used in the
cosmetics industry. Determination of reducing agent contained in the glycerin (refined
glycerine) is one parameter that must be analyzed. The presence of reducing agent
caused a decrease of the purity glycerine because of that the glycerin is can not be
marketed. The analysis of reducing agent contained in the glycerin has been done in
the PT. Ecogreen Oleochemical Medan Plant. The analysis was made using reagent
tollens reagent and benedict, where a glycerin visual examination using a
spectrophotometer DR. Lange at a wavelength of 400 nm. Tests started on 25 January
2010 until 28 January 2010 with the results % transmittance was respectively is
98.6%, , 99.2%, 99.0% and 99.5%. The average of % transmittance obtained in
glycerin in the PT. Ecogreen Oleochemical Medan Plant is 99.1%. This indicates that
the purity of the glycerin reaches 99.1% and reducing agent in glycerin only about
0.9%. | en_US |
