dc.description.abstract | The diversity and distribution of plankton and its correlation to the physical and
chemical parameter of water in the estuary of the village of Belawan I, sub-district
of Medan Belawan was studied from September to October 2013. Sample was
collectied from three stations which were settled by using purposive random
sampling method. There were nine classes of plankton consisted of 21 families
and 22 genera. Of all genera found from this study, 5 genera namely, Peridinium,
Gonatozygon, Diacyclops, Closteriopsis and Ulothrix performed the highest
distribution in every stations. The highest diversity index recorded in the third
station with the number was 2,34 and the lowest in the first station with the
number was 2,16. The highest equitability index recorded in the third station with
the number was 0,81 and the lowest in the first station with the number was 0,76.
The highest distribution index recorded in the second station with the number was
1,69 and the lowest in the third station with the number was 1,38. Physical and
chemical parameter of water such as light intensity, salinity, dissolved oxygen,
biochemical oxygen demand and oxygen saturation were strongly correlated with
the diversity of plankton. | en_US |
