Research about biodiversity of shoredbirds and potential of the food had been
conducted for February to November 2013. The research was aimed to know
biodiversity of shoredbirds and potenstial of food. Pantai Baru is one of beach
along eastern of the beach in Sumatera and determined as Important Bird Area
(IBA). Shoredbirds data sampling used Concentration Method, and
macrozoobenthos sampling used paralone pipe. Futhermore to estimate the
potential food used the calculation of macrozoobenthos biomass.. The result of
research found two families (Charadriidae and Scolopaciidae) and 19 species of
shorebirds which used this location as feeding ground, and 21 species of
macrozoobenthos which had potential as source of shorebird food, and biomass
contained in the location of research was 1175,38 g.m
-3
. The highest bird species
were Pluvialis fulva (319) and the lowest Numenius madagascariensis (1). The
highest number of macrozoobenthos was Nereis sp. of 8.684 ind. and the lowest
was Balanus sp. 1 Balanus sp. 2 Goneplax sp. each of them 7 ind. The highest
biomass was found in Sinovacula virens (1800,06 gr.m-3
) and lowest in Balanus
sp.2 (1,42 gr.m-3
).
