dc.description.abstract | The research on analysis ofhavy metals (Pb and Cd) accumulated in the water Hyacinth
(Eichornia crassipesSolms.) in the Asahan river, Subdistrict Toba Samosir has done in June 2013.
Sampling was done by purposive random sampling to determine the three observation stations.
Samples taken included roots, stems, leaves of hyacinth, sediment and water were then analyzed
by AAS. The results showed that the levelcontamination in the river of Asahan river by heavy
metal (Pb and Cd) was still below the water quality standards (PP No. 82, 2001), Pb concentrations
is less than 0.03 mg/l and Cd is less than 0.01 mg/l. Plumbum and Cadmium concentrations in
aquatic sediments is still relatively safe for life. The results analysis on the roots, stems and leaves
of water hyacinth showed that the highest Pb concentration was observed found was in the roots
while the lowest one was in the leaves, whereas for Cd was highest on the stems and the lowest on
the leaves. Bioconcentration factor value of water hyacinth is abel to accumulate heavy metals (Pb
and Cd) in the medium category because of it’s BCF range 250-1000. | en_US |
