The Study of Fish Diversity in downstream Asahan river Tanjung Balai North
Sumatera was studied in July 2014. The purpose of this research is to know the
diversity of fish, physical-chemical factors of water, and the relation of physical chemical factors of water with diversity of fish in downstream Asahan river.
Study site was settled using “purposive sampling” method based on four different
activities of humanity. Fifteen species of fish classifying into thirteen families,
and eight orders were recorded from research location. The highest density is
represent at fourth station with total number 0,207 ind/m2
and the lowest density
at first station with total value of 0,084 ind/m2
. The diversity index was
categorized into low index and the uniformity index was categorized into equal
index. The highest similarity index was found between the third station and fourth
station. The physical-chemical factors of waters that have strongly related to
diversity index of fish in downstream Asahan river are DO, oxygen saturation,
pH, and BOD.
