Hardness is the nature of water caused by the presence of ions or divalent metal
cations. One of the main causes of hardness cations are Ca2 +. Calcium in water tend to
form salts with carbonate or bicarbonate. When heated bicarbonate into carbonate small
fruiting solubility values. That is why the hardness of the water by bicarbonate / carbonated
can be removed by heating. From the results of tests that have been carried out on samples
of raw water and the water reservoir in PDAM IPA Tirtanadi Sunggal hardness values
obtained are significant and still be within the range of water suitable for consumption and
greatly meet the quality standards set by Permenkes No. 492 / Menkes / Per / IV / 2010 so it is not necessary addition of chemicals to eliminate hardness that can cause corrosion and
scale on the pipe because the hardness value obtained was in the optimum range.
