dc.description.abstract | Optimization of extraction of spent bleaching earth (SBE) with n-hexane using extraction
reactors have been done in the Palm Oil Research Center (PPKS) Medan. This study aims to
obtain the best extraction condition in the extraction process to obtain oil from the SBE and
also to analyze the quality of the oil from SBE. In the extraction process performed by
heating at the temperature of 55 ° C using n-hexane solvents and with stirring with a speed of
12 rpm for 1 until 10 hours using a reactor on a 30 kg scale of sample. Measuring the quality
of the oil is carried out through five parameters are the analysis of water content, the
determination of iodine value, the analysis of free fatty acid content, analysis of impurities
content and color test on oil, the results of this analysis were then compared with the quality
requirements of CPO specified in ISO - 01-2901 - 2006. Based on the yield percentof oil
extraction from SBE extraction using the reactor showed that the best conditions are used for
the extraction of SBE is for 10 hours, which from 1 until 10 hours the percent of the yield
whichobtained is increase, so that at the time of extraction for 10 hours produce the highest
percent yield is 2.3101%. From the analysis of oil quality measurement performed acquired
the water content is 8,30%, impurity content is 0,675%, iodine value is 44,981 g / 100 g
and a free fatty acid content is 16,465 % with oil color’s is orange brown. The analysis
showed that the oil from SBE does not meet the CPO quality requirements specified in SNI -
01-2901 - 2006 as a raw material in the manufacture of cooking oil so that the oil obtained
from the extraction of SBE can not be recycled into cooking oil. | en_US |
