Pengaruh Pemberian Oral Glukosa Preoperatif terhadap Kadar Glukosa Darah Pasien Diabetes Mellitus pada Pembedahan Laparotomi dengan Anestesi Umum

Abstract

Introduction : Surgery with general anesthesia is a stressor that can cause the body's stress response which is stimulated changes in normal metabolic patterns resulting in hyperglycemia and ketosis conditions. Objective: To compare the effect of preoperative oral administration of glucose on blood glucose levels in diabetes mellitus patients during general anesthesia surgery. Methods: This research is a clinical trial with a single-blind randomized controlled trial (RCT) design carried out at Central Surgical Installation and postoperative recovery room in Haji Adam Malik General Hospital Medan. The research sample was diabetes mellitus patients who underwent electively scheduled laparotomy under general anesthesia that met inclusion and exclusion criteria. The research hypotheses were tested using t-test. 95% confidence interval with p value < 0.05 was considered significant. Results: The mean age of research sample was 50.1 ± 12.73. Mean Glucose Levels Before giving maltodextrin was 178.47 and after giving maltodextrin was 163.78 obtained p value was 0.001 (p < 0.05), then there was a significant effect between glucose levels before and after administration of maltodextrin. Conclusion: There is an effect of preoperative oral glucose administration on blood glucose levels in diabetes mellitus patients where the decrease in postoperative blood glucose levels in patients with diabetes mellitus is more significant after preoperative administration of maltodextrin compared to placebo.
