    Abstract
To consider the importance of traditional market, it will be important to assess the factors effecting the success in creation of vacancy. To maintain the existence of traditional market in preparing the vacancy it requires the coordination of traders not to do their activity outside of area determined. This research is made in Medan city, by taking the location of traditional market managed by Market agency of Medan city. The traditional market observed is Desa Lalang market. There are 98 traders determined in this research. The analysis instrument used is rank spearman and t-test. The method of research used is descriptive method, i.e., a method describing real condition of research field. The Desa Lalang market recently is expanding until even to occupy the road side of Kelambir Lima street to Binjai street and Simpang Desa Kampung Lalang passing through Tugu Selamat Datang in Medan city The research indicates that traditional market of Desa Lalang plays important role in creating the vacancy, ie., for 1.244 peoples, and in Great religious day/holiday, it reaches to 1.368 peoples. The correlation between activity type traditional market, number of presentation, number of trader, income in relation with creation of vacancy, is significant. This is evident by each result of rank spearmen and t-test: type of activity (rs = 0.363 and t-test = 3.817), number of presentation (rs = 0.291 and t-test = 2.980), number of trader (rs = 0.263 and t-test = 2.671), income (rs = 0.481 and t-test = 5.375). Respondents recognize that immediate community also makes use of traditional market Desa Lalang, such as to manage caffee, parking activity, electrical leasing, petromax leasing, balance leasing, night security and presentation. To maintain the capacity of traditional market in preparing the vacancy, it is suggested to practice the extension activity collectively on roadways/corridors, sewer between kiosk or lost to prevent the clogging and stagnation of water/waste flow thus producing many diseases.
