This research aims to determine the best composition of filler palm oil fuel ash
(POFA) in polypropylene (PP) composite of properties and characteristics. Research
methodology includes, the preparation of raw materials, the extrude mixing process
and specimens made by injection molding. The variables used are ratio between PP
and POFA 90:10; 85:15; 80:20. Composite tested by Fourier Transform Infrared
Spectroscope (FTIR), flammability, Lost on Ignition (LOI), tensile strength,
elongation at break, impact strength, density, and ash content. From characterization
by FTIR known that there wasn’t any reaction between matrix and filler.
Flammibility test showed that ratio 80:20 had grade V-2. Mechanical properties
showed that filler content have not been able to increase mechanical properties of
composite PP-POFA than pure polypropylene. Mechanical properties maximum of
composite showed at ratio PP:POFA 90:10; which tensile strength is 17,945 MPa,
elongation at break is 53,553 % and impact strength is 112,1 J/m2
.
