Lauric acid is a saturated fatty acid found in virgin coconut oil, saturated fatty acids in coconut oil are dominated by lauric acid where coconut oil contains ± 53% lauric acid and around 7% caprylic acid. In the cosmetic industry it is used as a moisturizer and softener, and is also used in the soap and shampoo industry, in food as energy (nutrient) and anti-microbial in the body. In Indonesia, the need for lauric acid is still imported from abroad, because lauric acid has many benefits, causing this lauric acid to be relatively expensive. Therefore it is necessary to increase the production of lauric acid in Indonesia. The factory for making lauric acid from coconut oil by hydrolyzing fat splitting process is planned to have a production capacity of 4,000 tons/year with 330 working days a year using 1,196.2220 kg/hour of lauric acid as raw material to produce 505.0505 kg/hour of lauric acid. The results of the economic analysis of the Lauric Acid Factory from Coconut Oil are as follows:
• Total Investment Capital : IDR 436,862,936,573.63,-
• Total Production Cost : IDR 217,793,382,992.29,-
• Sales Proceeds : IDR 704,547,439,068.75,-
• Net Profit : IDR 339,080,200,057.25,-
• Profit Margin (PM) : 80%
• Break Even Point (BEP) : 12.39%
• Return on Investment (ROI) : 27%
• Pay Out Time (POT) : 3.7 years
• Return on Network (RON) : 29.36%
• Internal Rate of Return (IRR) : 24.4963%
From the results of the analysis of the economic aspects, it can be concluded that the Lauric Acid Manufacturing Plant from Coconut Oil Raw Materials with Continuous Fat Splitting Hydrolysis Process is feasible to establish.
