Analisis Perubahan Makna Kata Serapan Bahasa Arab dalam Bahasa Indonesia pada Surat Kabar Republika Online Rubrik “Islam Digest-Muslimah”

Abstract

This study discusses about the change in the meaning of Arabic loanwords in Indonesian which found in Republika Online Newspaper, “Islam Digest- Muslimah” section. This study aims to find out the loanwords and types of the change in the meaning which found in Republika Online Newspaper, “Islam Digest-Muslimah” section. This study is a library research and qualitative. The method used in this study is the listening method with note taking technique and descriptive analysis. This study uses the theory of the change in the meaning of loanword which are divided into extension of meaning, narrowing of meaning, and the complete change of the meaning. The results of this study show that there are 67 Arabic loanwords in Indonesian which found in Republika Online Newspaper, “Islam Digest-Muslimah” section. From the 67 words found, it is classified into the the type and it show that there are 33 words which undergo the extension of meaning, 8 words which undergo the narrowing of meaning, 5 words which undergo the complete change of the meaning, and 21 words which not undergo the change in the meaning or also known as fixed meaning. The conclusion of this study is that many offline and online print media present news in which there are many loanwords used and one of it is in Arabic. Those loanwords include the change in meaning and the dominant one that has a change in meaning is the extension of meaning.
