Acrylic resins usually used as a base for the manufacture of artificial teeth, because it is
biocompatibel, flexible, and easily available material and cheap. This material is brittle
and can cause pores due to evaporation of unreacted monomers to polymers. The
advantages of this material resembles the original tooth, fit and aesthetics can be
strengthened with the addition of glass fibers. In this research, the manufacture of
denture acrylic resin-based thermal polymerization no.3 with the addition of glass fiber
variation. Acrylic resin selected no.3 because of the color of the resin is in accordance
with the color of human teeth. Glass fiber (fiberglass) is a fiber that can be added to the
acrylic resin to improve the physical and mechanical properties of acrylic resin. The
addition of glass fibers in denture serves enchance physical and mechanical properties
and can adhesi with acrylic resin in the polymer matrix that has the power of a good
bond with acrylic resin, glass fiber therefore be an option to be added to the acrylic resin
as reinforcing material. Acrylic resin composition, gear oil and fiber glass is made with
a ratio of 10 g: 4.5 mL: 0.13 g which is the most appropriate comparison to get 3 pieces
of samples according to the model parent. Length of the glass fiber used was 4 mm, 6
mm, and 8 mm as the independent variable of the study. Tests were carried out ,
physical examination consisting of tests is density and porosity testing point to see if the
tooth has a good structure that includes the arrangement of atoms or loose or dense
crystalline and amorphous. Namely mechanical testing, compressive strength, tensile
strength and Vickers hardness point to know how the power of the denture . The results
showed that the addition of acrylic resin with glass fiber size 6 mm is the optimum
condition, which is an artificial tooth gear to good use, which is obtained: density
1.2256 g/cm3
, porosity 1.846%, compressive strength 76.623 MPa, tensile strength
71.207 MPa and Vickers hardness 16.997 kg/mm2.
