    Abstract
Foundation, which is the important part of a building, bears structural load on it so that it has to be durable and solid. The load on the foundation is passed along to the soil layer under it. The capacity of foundation carrying the load is called foundation carrying capacity (or portative power). The amount of carrying capacity and the settlement of the foundation can be known by doing loading test, empirical method analysis, and modeling finite element method. Therefore, the data were obtained from soil investigation and careful and accurate laboratory test. The thesis analyzed the carrying capacity and the settlement of bored pile of 800 mm in diameter of single pile and pile group by using empirical method, finite element method, all pile program, and compared the result with the interpretation of loading test in the construction of the Sapadia Hotel, Medan. The data were analyzed by conducting soil investigation and laboratory study by using finite element method with soft soil and Mohr Coulumb modeling method. The result of the analysis showed that the ultimate carrying capacity of bored pile foundation with empirical method in the highest value by using N-SPT data was 541.12 tons, using Reese and Wright method, while the lowest value by using soil parameter data and laboratory study was 464.52 tons. Ultimate carrying capacity by using Allpile program was 484. 48 tons. From the interpretation of static loading test, the ultimate carrying capacity was 500 tons (2 x planning load); by using Mazurkiewicz method, the highest value of the ultimate carrying capacity was 540 tons, whlle the lowest value, using Chin method was 478.41 tons. Using Broms method, lateral carrying capacity was 39.96 tons, while using finite element method, it was 70.68 tons. The settlement of static loading test was 8.538 mm; the lowest settlement from the result of the analysis on finite element method was 6.313 mm, the result of Allpile program was 7.67 mm, and the result of empirical method was 8.25 mm and 8.89 mm. The settlement occurred in group pile was 7.91 mm. Based on ASTM D.1143-81, the permitted settlement is 25.40 mm.
