This study aims to describe the response of the people of Sipahutar Village, Sipahutar District, North Tapanuli Regency to the legend of King Datuk Nabolon using psycholiterary studies based on the theory of Sigmund Freud. The intrinsic elements obtained from this legend are theme, plot, setting, characters and characterization. This research uses qualitative descriptive research methods. The population in this study was the entire community of Sipahutar Village, Sipahutar District, North Tapanuli Regency with a population of 27,828 people. The samples in the study were 5 communities which were divided into two groups, namely the old age group and the middle age group where the researcher took purposive sampling techniques with the aim that the sample was chosen deliberately. The result of this study is that the community gave a good response to the legend of King Datuk Nabolon and the community recognized that the legend of King Datuk Nabolon occurred due to the brotherhood between brothers and sisters who helped each other in the distribution of inheritance from their parents and the legend could provide a good message for the community. However, the results showed that out of 5 people who believed in the legend of King Datuk Nabolon really occurred only from the old group, there were 4 people and 1 person from the middle age group believed in the legend. The community hopes that the legend of King Datuk Nabolon can provide positive value to the community. In addition, the community must also be able to comply with regulations and prohibitions according to the customs and customs of Sipahutar Village, Sipahutar District, North Tapanuli Regency.
