Landslides are natural disasters that occur due to the motion of rocks and soil from a high place to a lower place. Central Aceh Regency has a rough topography with reliefs of hills and mountains with an altitude of 200-2600 metres above sea level and has a fairly high slope. Hence, there is a possibility of landslides. One of the matters that is done to minimise losses and victims is to conduct a study of areas with the potential for landslides by using a Geographic Information System.
The mapping of landslide prone areas was carried out in the Central Aceh Regency with the reference estimation model of Peraturan Menteri Departemen Pekerjaan Umum No.22 Tahun 2007. One of the aspects that causes landslides is human activity which includes cropping patterns, excavation and cutting off slopes, pond moulding, drainage, constructions, population density, and migration efforts. Landslide hazard mapping using a Geographic Information System (GIS) is conducted by scoring and overlay methods between the composite parameters using QGIS software.
From the results of the estimation recognized 3 (three) classes of vulnerability risk. For risks with a low level of vulnerability is 69.85% or an area of 3089,94 km2, medium is 29,89% or an area of 1322,51 km2, and high is 0,26% or an area of 11,44 km2.
