    Abstract
This research examines the pattern of adaptation of the Punjabi community's behavior in responding to Covid-19 in the city of Medan where the Punjabi social system requires them to only interact with fellow tribesmen so that the customary marriage system requires that they marry partners from one clan or prohibit marriages from outside the clan or tribe. other. The theory used in this study is George Herbert Mead's socialization theory which states that human self-development takes place through 4 stages including the preparation stage, the imitating stage, the ready to act stage, and the collective norm acceptance stage. The results of this study indicate that: (1) In the preparatory stage, community leaders and the government socialized about maintaining health protocols to the Punjabi community in Medan. (2) In the imitating stage, the community follows the 5 M rules. (3) In the ready-to-act stage, the Punjabi ethnic group has carried out the level of awareness and benefits of the health protocol. (4) At the stage of accepting collective norms, the community follows the rules and no one argues, rejects the rules that have been socialized by the community leaders and the government. For the Indonesian people, it is hoped that this research can be used as a special reference for Indonesian people to always follow the health protocols directed by the government. Because there are more Indonesian people who disobey than the endogamous Punjabi community in Medan and the Punjabi community in Medan must mingle more closely with people who are not of the same ethnicity as the Punjabi community in order to increase strong solidarity between different ethnic groups
