Prematurity is the major problem due to the fetus weight is less and not enough the age then the vital organs experience the trouble to grow and develop properly. A lot of prenatal mortalities is caused by complication of the prematurity. Low Birth Weight could describe the preterm baby, nationally in hospitals that was 27,9%. In 2007, it were 17.80% and in 2008 increased 18,71% at General Hospital Langsa city. The purpose of this observational analytical studied with case control design was to analyze the relationship between internal and external factors of mother and the occurrence of prematurity. The population of this study were all of the mothers who delivered their baites in General Hospital Iangsa city on January until December 2008. The case sample were taken by the purposive sampling and it were 47 mothers who delivered their premature babies for case group and the control group were 94 mothers who delivered their mature babies. The data obtained were analyzed through Chi-Square test. The result of Chi-square test showed that there were a relationship between parity (P=0,000, OR=4,052), history of pregnancy (P=0,000, OR=6,237), history of mother's disease (P=0,026, OR2,259), bad habits (P=0,000, OR=7,169), infant condition (P=0,000, OR= 28,552), and antenatal care visit (P=0,000, OR=6,833) with preterm labor. Education, occupation interval between childbirth and family's income had no relationship with preterm laborn. It is suggested to pregnant mothers to prepare their pregnancy with doing antenatal care visit at least 4 times and always doing good and healthful lifestyle especially during the pregnancy.
