Diarrhea disease remains a public health problem of Indonesia, is characterized by high morbidity due to diarrhea and cause of death, especially in infants where the outbreak occurred in 2008 in District 69 with a number of 8133 people, 239 people deaths (CFR 2.91%). In 2009 an outbreak occurred in 21 district with a number of 5756 people, with the death of 100 people (CFR 174%), while the 2010 outbreak of diarrhea in 33 districty by 1404 the number of patients, with 73 people the number of deaths (CFR 1.74 %) Several factors are a cause of diarrhea is a factor serperti mother toddler, toddler factors and enviromental factors directly and indirectly affect the incidence of diarrhea. This study is an observational studies with case-control study design, performed in the Working Area of Merek Puskesmas, Merek Subdistrik Karo Regency in 2012, to determine the sociodemographic factors, maternal behavior and toddler diarrhea environment in the region of Karo District Merek with toddlers 124 samples, 62 cases and 62 controls, with purposive sampling in which cases and controls in a population dimabil. Data obtained front the Health Center, Karo District Health Office, observation (observation), a direct interview using a questionnaire to the respondent. The results showed no significant influence between maternal education children (p = 0.000, OR = 22.815), maternal behavior of young children (p = 0.000, OR = 23.143), household toilets (p = 0.000, OR = 7.2), availability of waste disposal sites (p = 0.000, OR = 9.321) and the availability of sewerage (p = 0.000, OR = 9.986). The results of the multivariate test found one of the most influential variable on the incidence of diarrhea in infants household toilets (p = 0,000, Exp (B) = 1.974). The need for intensive counseling by health professionals about the factors associated with the incidence of diarrhea, to raise awareness for people to change bad habits and contrary to health and can cause diarrheal illness in infants.
