The incident of Acute Flaccid Paralysis (AFP) is still regarded being the problem of community health in Indonesia especially in Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam Province. Incident of AFP or polio suspect is a group of paralysis symptoms of flaccid paralysis disease acutely occurred in the children under 15 years old, not because of an accident. In 2007, there are 1,476 AFP cases at all province in Indonesia and 41 cases in Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam Province. This purpose of this observational study with case control design is to examine the relationship between child's characteristics and the incident of AFP/ polio suspects. All of the 41 children with AFP/polio suspects in Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam Province in 2007 were selected to be the sample for case group. The 82 (1 :2) children without AFP/polio suspect were used as the sample for control group that the total sample for this study were 123 children who were all selected through purposive sampling technique. The data obtainet were analyzed by means of chi-square and multiple logistics regression tests. The result of chi-square test shows that the variable of age (p=0,002), sex (p=0,000), immunization status (p=0,000), nutrition status (p=0,000) have a relationship with the incident of AFP/polio suspect while the variables of the habit of preparing drinking water (p=0,156), the habit of washing hands (p=0,183), habit of defecating (p=0,294), and the habit of taking a bath (p=0,254) have no relationship with the incident of AFP/polio suspect. Based on the result of multiple logistics regression test, it is found out that the dominant variable is the immunization status with OR=10,9. It is suggested to be increase the implementation of immunization to the children, to sweep the children who have not got the routine polio immunization, to increase the surveillance and the children nutrient status monitoring and improvement routinely and periodically.en_US
