dc.description.abstract | The book about KIA (health of mother ond child) is an instrument for notation and counseling (education) for mothers and their families and as a device for communication between health care providers and families. KIA book contains information and counseling material for helping families, especially mothers, in taking care of their health from pregnancy until their children are five years old. The use of KIA book which is not optimal, becomes an obstacle in improving health service for pregnant mothers. The objective of the research was to analyze some factors which influenced the use of KIA book by pregnant mothers in the working area of Merdeka Puskesmas, Karo District, in 2014. The research was analytic observational with cross sectional design. It was conducted from May to June, 2014. The population was all 300 pregnant mothers in the working area of Merdeka Puskesmas, and 62 of them were used as the samples. The data were analyzed by using Chi Square test and multiple logistic regression tests. The result of the research showed that the influence of mothers' knowledge (p = 0.033) with PR 95% CI (1.620; 1.060-2.477) and support from health care providers (p = 0.043) with PR 95% CI (1.418; 0.968-2.135) on the use of KIA book by pregnant mothers. Support from health care providers had dominant influence on the use of KIA book at Exp (β) = 4.438 which indicated that mothers, with the support from health care providers, would have the opportunity to use KIA book 4.3 times more than mothers who were not supported by health care providers. It is recommended that the Health Service of Karo District increase the coverage of using KIA book and the participation of health care providers in giving information about the benefit of using KIA book Pregnant mothers should always bring KIA books as health notation; they should also be more active in searching for health information for pregnant mothers by reading and understanding it because it is complete and easy to understand. | en_US |
