The incidence of malaria is still a public health problem in some
countries, both in the tropical countries and in the sub-tropical countries. Base on
the profile of the Health afice of Asohan District in 2012, the working area of
Puskesmas which had the highest endemicity was Bagan Asahan Puskesmos
where of 15,642 inlnbitaws, 95 of then based on microscopic examinatio4 were
positive so that API value was 6.07ort (API wlue > 5o/o) whtch indicated that this
area sufered the highest rate in endemic malaria.
The objectfue of the research was to find out the correldtion between the
efectiyeness of using mosquito nets and the incidence of malaria in the working
area of Bagan Asahan Puskesmas. The research used observational prospective
method Obsenational research is a research in which the researcher performs
only observation without giving any intervention in lhe studied variables; he/she
only stadies the funre events. In this case, respondenls would be studied 28 days
ahead. Tlw population was j,445 families who got insecticide mosquito nets in the
working area of Bagan Asahan Puskesmas, and 73 of them were used as the
samples. The samples were odded I0%o so that there were 80 respondents all
togethet The somples were taken by using proportional random sampling
technique where each village had its representative that was taken randomly. The
dota were analyzed by using chi square test in order to test proportio ate
disparity.
The resull of the research shcwed that the efrectiveness of ustng mosquito
nets had signiJAcant correlation wilh the ineidence of malaria in the working area
of Bagan Asahan Puskcsrnas, Tanjung Balai, Asahon District at p value < 0.05.
It is recommended that the Health ffice of Asahan Distrlct spread
information about the management and prevention from malaria and health care
providers provide inlormation about the increase in consistence of using
iruecticide mosquito tets, the method of using them, the frequency of using them,
and the ke.eping of the physical quality of then in order to prevent people from
being infected by malaria
