dc.description.abstractThe Research on the effect of Afrika (Vernonia amygdalina Del.)leaf extract on blood sugar levels and pancreatic histology in mice (Mus musculus L.) diabetic model was conducted from May to August 2022. Afrika leaf plants are traditionally used by the community as antidiabetic. Afrika leaf contains of flavonoid compounds that could lower blood sugar levels and could repair pancreatic beta cells. The research method used a completely randomized design (CRD) with 6 treatments and 4 replications. The treatments consisted of normal control, positive control, Afrika leaf extract at a dose of 100 mg/kg BW; 200 mg/kg BW; 300 mg/kg BW and metformin at a dose of 65 mg/kg BW; Blood sugar levels were measured on day 0; then measured at 5 days until day 30. Pancreatic organs were prepared by paraffin method and hematoxylin phloxine staining. The results of induction of diabetic with STZ showed blood sugar levels rose >126 mg/dL so it was declared at diabetic and the administration of afrika leaf extract showed a decrease in blood sugar levels, the average was obtained in the treatment P1 (167.00 ± 15.23), P2 (168, 00 ± 29.47) and P4 (173.75 ± 26.39) which were closed to the K- treatment mean (117.25 ± 10.62). All of the results showed that afrika leaf extract was able to reduce blood sugar levels at a dose of 100 mg/kg BW and 200 mg/kg BW could improved the diameter of the islets of Langerhans and increased the density of beta cells of the islets of Langerhans.en_US
